The Legend of Machli (T-16)
The “Lady of the Lakes”, Machli was perhaps the most photographed tiger in the world. She ruled the lake area around Padam Talao and Rajbagh for years, famously fought a 14-foot mugger crocodile, and her lineage helped repopulate Ranthambore and even Sariska Tiger Reserve.
Today’s Tigers
The reserve is now home to more than 70 tigers spread across its zones. Each tiger is identified by a unique “T” number based on its stripe pattern. Tigers establish territories around lakes, valleys and the fort area, and sightings vary daily.
